We are incredibly proud of our support for charities and our communities and upholding our values and doing the right thing means that we encourage colleagues to get involved with our communities through fundraising, volunteering and sponsorship
Charitable and community partners
Our charity partnership with YoungMinds was chosen by our colleagues in January 2020 to reflect our internal commitment to ‘wellbeing’. Our ambition is to support the partnership across stores and support centres as we pledge to raise £2 million over 3 years. Our store teams and customers have already raised over £1 million through donations and a variety of fundraising activities including the huge ‘Step Up’ challenge where colleagues walked the circumference of the earth in a bid to raise money.
YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity fighting for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. They are here to make sure children and young people get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.
The crisis in children and young people’s mental health is real and it is urgent. More children and young people than ever before are reaching out for help with their mental health. But for those who take that brave step, help is much too hard to find. YoungMinds are changing this. They’re fighting for young people’s mental health. Join their fight.
Supporting skills in the community
Over the years, we have worked in partnership with our local communities to help them feel proud of their sports clubs, hospital gardens, children’s play areas etc often transferring DIY skills along the way.
We are committed to continuing to build skills in our communities and have joined the Government’s Kickstart programme, to provide 6 month job placements for young people (up to the age of 25) who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment. We aim to provide around 140 Kickstart Job placements in 2021. In addition to the Kickstart scheme, we are supporting people into work through LEAP, our ‘Learn and Earn Apprenticeship Programme’ and are targeting 200 apprentices per year.
