Wickes isn't just looking at ways to reduce its own environmental impact, we are also providing more sustainable products and services and helping customers create more sustainable homes.
Wickes promotes sustainable products such as certified timber and products which can be used under government green homes schemes. Wickes plans to work with customers to understand their sustainability needs to inform the development and promotion of sustainable products and services.
Packaging Waste and Recycling
As a multichannel retailer, Wickes will always require packaging to protect our products, and to offer customers the essentials for their homes. But this doesn't mean we don't have ambitious targets to reduce our packaging use, and transition to more sustainable materials wherever possible.
We have now set targets to:
- Eliminate unnecessary packaging on own-label products by 2023
- Have at least 50% recycled content by 2025
- All packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025
In additions to these targets, we are exploring reusing our timber waste back into products, such as loft boards, OSB, and sheet materials.
Promoting energy efficiency
Wickes sells a wide range of products which help with energy efficiency, including insulation, double glazing, lighting and smart heating systems, all supported by a network of local tradesmen. This not only saves households money, but with around 20% of UK carbon emissions from housing, it helps the environment too.
