Wickes Community Programme Launches Shed Competition as School Support Requests Soar
Support for local schools and nurseries is on the rise, with new figures revealing that 62% of all applications to the Wickes Community Programme this year have come from schools and nurseries. To help meet growing demand, Wickes has launched a new competition giving community groups the chance to win a Mercia Shed to support their projects.

Building on its support for schools and community projects, Wickes has launched a new competition giving community groups the chance to win a Mercia Shed. Schools and local organisations can enter for the opportunity to secure this essential storage solution to help with events, projects, and activities. Entries are open now via Wickes’ social media channels, with the competition closing on 12/09/25.
The Wickes Community Programme, a nationwide product donation initiative, supports a wide range of community groups, with schools making up 62% of requests. These projects often include playground renovations, reading sheds, outdoor learning spaces, building improvements, and more.
With children now back in classrooms after the summer holidays, Wickes predicts to see a further surge in requests as schools and nurseries look for additional support on new projects at the beginning of the school year.
One recent example of a school that received support is Pierrepont Gamston Primary School in West Bridgford, which received tools and materials for its “Love Your School” community event, aimed at enhancing the school grounds and creating a better environment for children. The donation included a range of essential items, from brush sets and Shed & Fence Protector to gardening tools, helping staff and volunteers bring their plans to life.

Emma McDonough, Pierrepont Gamston Primary School PTA said: "This donation is incredibly valuable for our 'Love Your School' event. The supplies will make a huge difference in helping us maintain our school grounds, and we are so thankful for the support from the Wickes Community Programme."

Another example is Deneholm Primary School in Grays, which recently received support to tackle storage challenges. To support, the school was provided with a Mercia Shed, giving them a secure space to safely store and protect equipment purchased by the PTA for a range of important school events and activities.
Lisa Ryan, Deneholm Primary School PTA said: "We really needed a shed to store and protect our PTA equipment. This generous donation from Wickes will be a game-changer for us, ensuring our resources are safe and ready for future events."
Hannah Randle Hockin, Community Engagement Manager at Wickes said: “We love supporting local schools through the Wickes Community Programme. It's a fantastic way for us to give back to the community, and it's brilliant to see the next generation of DIYers get hands-on with projects. We're proud to do our part in helping these schools create better spaces for their students to learn and play."
The Wickes Community Programme welcomes all local community groups seeking assistance for improvement projects. Groups interested in applying for a product donation can visit their local store to speak to the manager or find out more by visiting our website at www.wickes.co.uk/community-programme.
